TalkTalk Broadband Review 2026: The Honest Verdict

TalkTalk is one of the UK’s biggest broadband providers. It’s also one of the most complained-about. If you’re thinking of switching, here’s what the data says so you can see if it’s worth switching.

What is TalkTalk?

TalkTalk is a UK broadband and TV provider founded in 2003. It operates on the Openreach network and reaches most of the country. It built its reputation on low prices however today suffers from more competition from other Openreach competitors like Sky, Plusnet and BT.

The company offers full fibre (FTTP) in an expanding number of areas through Openreach’s Ultrafast network, and standard broadband (ADSL) and fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) where full fibre isn’t available yet.

Customer satisfaction:

This is where TalkTalk struggles, regularly being one of the most complained about providers in official Ofcom data.

Ofcom complaints data (Q1 2026) TalkTalk generated 10 complaints per 100,000 customers in Q1 2026 which is the highest rate of any major broadband provider, well above the industry average of 6. That’s the third consecutive quarter TalkTalk has sat at or near the top of the complaints table, with the main causes being faults and service, provisioning, complaints handling, and billing.

Ofcom complaints data (Q2 2026) TalkTalk performed better in Q2, generating 7 complaints out of 100,000 customers which is a big improvement, but still joint worst alongside Vodafone, BT and EE. This shows a persistent poor performance and should be considered prior to signing up with TalkTalk.

Which? customer score (2026) TalkTalk scored 59% in Which?’s 2026 broadband survey, placing it 10th out of 12 providers - joint with Virgin Media and above only NOW Broadband (54%). Which? has not awarded TalkTalk Recommended Provider status.

Trustpilot TalkTalk holds a 2.0/5 (Poor) rating on Trustpilot, based on over 90,000 reviews. Recurring themes in negative reviews include long wait times on customer service, billing errors, and slow fault resolution.

How does TalkTalk compare?

Price rises

TalkTalk raises prices every April by £4 per month on plans taken out now. That’s on top of whatever your contract price is so a deal advertised at £25/month could be £29 or more by year two.

Check the full contract terms before you sign. The monthly price you see is not necessarily the monthly price you’ll pay throughout.

Is TalkTalk broadband any good?

TalkTalk ranks very poorly in customer service across multiple independent ratings; however, there may be an argument for some people to take a package out with TalkTalk.

Price. TalkTalk is sometimes competitive on pricing depending on where you live. They often feature sign up bonuses like gift cards which can help bring down the total cost of the contract. It’s always worth using the comparison tool above to see what the best deal at your address is.

Coverage: TalkTalk uses Openreach for the bulk of its network but also sells full fibre over CityFibre infrastructure in some areas. Between the two, it reaches most UK addresses.

Full fibre in more areas. TalkTalk is expanding its FTTP offering via Openreach’s Ultrafast network as well as utilising the CityFibre infrastructure for more reach. If you’re in a full fibre area, the speeds themselves are fine however the issue is support when things go wrong and whether pricing is competitive.

The honest summary: if you’re happy to self-serve and never need to call customer support, TalkTalk’s price can work. If you’ve ever had a broadband fault and needed your provider to fix it quickly, the complaints data suggests TalkTalk is a risk.

What speed do I need?

• Basic browsing, one or two devices: 10-30Mbps is enough
• Streaming HD, video calls, a couple of people: 30-67Mbps
• Large household, 4K streaming, gaming, working from home: 100Mbps+
• Full fibre, multiple heavy users: 500Mbps+

Switching to TalkTalk

Switching broadband is now handled through One Touch Switch so your new provider manages the process, and your old provider is notified automatically. You don’t need to cancel separately in most cases.

Is TalkTalk worth it?

TalkTalk used to compete almost entirely on price, but it’s no longer the cheapest option in most areas. You can often find better-rated providers for a similar monthly cost, which makes the Ofcom complaints data, the Which? score and the Trustpilot rating harder to overlook.

All three point the same direction: when something goes wrong, TalkTalk’s track record on fixing it is among the worst of any major provider. If the price difference to a better-rated alternative is small, the satisfaction gap is worth factoring in.
