How much does EE broadband cost?

EE is often one of the cheapest providers on the Openreach network, competing directly with big names like BT, Sky, Plusnet and Vodafone. There are several providers who run on the same underlying infrastructure with providers like EE frequently offering both reward cards and switch credit which reduce the total cost, so it’s worth comparing live prices at your postcode before signing up.

EE broadband price rises

EE increases prices by £4 per month every March for customers joining now which is worth factoring into the total prior to signing up. We include this in our comparison table above, so you can see any mid contract price rises.

On a 24-month contract, that’s two price rises during your term meaning you could be paying £8 per month more by the time your contract ends. It is worth factoring this into the total cost, not just the headline monthly price.

EE’s £4 rise is higher than some competitors, for example Community Fibre charges £3 per month and YouFibre who have no mid contract price rises.

EE broadband for new customers

New customers get EE’s best available pricing, the Smart Hub 7 Plus router and sometimes rewards. EE also frequently offers switch credit or reward cards which are worth considering before signing up as these change regularly.

EE mostly sells broadband on 24 month plans, so make sure you’re happy with the longer contract period before signing up.

EE broadband for existing customers

If you’re already with EE for either broadband or mobile, it’s worth checking what’s available to you directly through the My EE app or by calling 150 from an EE mobile (0800 079 8586 from any other phone). Out-of-contract customers are typically on a higher rolling rate than new customer pricing, with Ofcom reporting an average gap of around £7 per month for broadband on its own. If they can’t offer you a better deal, it may be worth switching to a competitor and saving money.

A bonus to EE is that customers with EE broadband and EE mobile on one account (EE One) get up to £20 a month off a new or upgraded mobile plan, which can be a main differentiator from BT and Sky. If you’re already on EE mobile, this is worth factoring in before you compare elsewhere.

EE broadband speeds

Full fibre (FTTP) delivers consistent speeds close to the advertised rate. Part fibre (FTTC) uses copper for the final stretch and speeds can vary based on your distance from the exchange.

EE vs BT

EE is owned by BT so they share the same Openreach network, same coverage, broadly similar pricing. EE offers speeds up to 1.6Gbps vs BT’s 900Mbps ceiling, and the EE One discount for EE mobile customers is a genuine advantage. If you’re not on EE mobile, the best deal between the two comes down to whatever’s cheapest at your postcode when you compare. Both providers frequently offer huge switch incentives, which may change the total cost and is always worth checking.

EE vs Sky

Both EE and Sky run on Openreach infrastructure making availability similar. Sky scored slightly better in Ofcom complaints data scoring 5 vs EE’s 7 per 100,000 customers but EE placed higher in Which?’s customer satisfaction survey 66% vs Sky’s 62%. It is worth comparing live prices at your address as both providers periodically run different offers.

EE vs Plusnet

Both EE and Plusnet are part of BT group and run on the same Openreach network. Plusnet scores better with Which? and has fewer Ofcom complaints than EE. The trade-off is that Plusnet only offer speeds up to 900Mbps versus EE’s 1.6Gbps, as well as that, Plusnet don’t offer TV packages whereas EE does. If you want broadband only and prices are similar then Plusnet wins, if you want TV or speeds exceeding 1Gbps then EE wins.
