Plusnet broadband review
Plusnet is part of BT Group and offers both full fibre and part fibre broadband only packages. Read our in-depth review to see if it's the right pick for you.
- Plusnet is best for
- Shoppers wanting full fibre with a strong customer satisfaction rate
- You should think twice if
- You want other services included like TV and mobile bundles
MoneyHQ Verdict
We think Plusnet is a top provider and is worth considering for broadband only packages. It regularly offers switch incentives alongside competitive speeds up to 900Mbps, however like most providers this usually comes with a 24-month contract and a scheduled annual price rise, which should be factored in when choosing whether it's suitable for you.
Plusnet has some of the lowest recorded complaints to Ofcom, with just 4 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers in Q1 of 2026. That compares with competitors like TalkTalk, who scored 10 per 100,000 customers. In Ofcom's customer service report, 91% of Plusnet customers were satisfied with their service overall, above the industry average of 84% (2024 data). This customer experience alongside its competitive pricing makes Plusnet a great provider which should be considered at your address.

- 2026 Q1 Ofcom complaint rate was below industry average

Plusnet broadband packages mostly come on 24-month contracts, with some 12-month options, and prices rise by £4 a month each 31 March. Some deals carry a one-off activation fee, but you may even bag a nice switch bonus.
How much will Plusnet broadband prices rise?
Plusnet, like most broadband providers, may increase your monthly price during the minimum term, so it's worth looking at both the starting price and the scheduled price rises before signing up.
For example:
- Starting monthly price£20.99 a month
- Price from 31 March 2027£24.99 a month
- Price from 31 March 2028£28.99 a month
Since January 2025, broadband and telecom providers offering contracts with specified in-contract price rises must tell customers those rises upfront in pounds and pence rather than using an inflation-linked formula.
That makes the increase easier to understand, but it can still make a meaningful difference to the overall cost of a long contract.
What will the contract actually cost?
The easiest way to compare broadband deals is to look at what you are likely to pay across the whole minimum term, not just the introductory monthly price.
For example, if your starting price is £25 per month from 1st October 2026, rising by Plusnet's £4 to £29 from 31st March 2027 and £33 from 31st March 2028, your headline price might be £600 over the two years. But your true cost over the full contract term will be around £696, a £96 difference.
What broadband speeds does Plusnet offer?
Plusnet offers different broadband speeds depending on the network available where you live, and its range runs from lower-speed packages at around 66Mbps up to 900Mbps on full-fibre connections.
An advertised broadband speed is an average rather than a guarantee - the speed available to your own home can depend on your connection type, location and network conditions. Full fibre, also known as fibre to the premises or FTTP, uses fibre-optic cable all the way to the property, while older part-fibre connections use fibre for most of the route but retain copper for the final section.
This can matter as much as the headline package name, so enter your postcode and current provider to see which Plusnet services are available at your address.
Which Plusnet speed do I need?
The right speed for your household depends on how many people and devices share your connection as well as what you use it for. Rather than automatically choosing the fastest package, it's always good to compare available packages against how your household actually uses broadband.
| What you use broadband for | What speed you might need* |
|---|---|
| Solo browsing and streaming | 50-75 Mbps |
| Couple with streaming and video calls | 75-150 Mbps |
| Family home with multiple devices | 150-300 Mbps |
| Home office plus household use | 150-250 Mbps |
| Shared house or heavy usage | 250-500 Mbps |
| Small business basics | 150-300 Mbps |

How good is Plusnet's customer support?
Plusnet's customer service track record is a great one. In Ofcom's customer service report, 91% of its customers were satisfied with their service overall, significantly higher than the average of 84% (2024 data), and it has one of the lowest complaint rates, with just 4 out of 100,000 in Q1 2026. In Which?'s 2026 broadband survey, Plusnet received a customer score of 71%, placing it fourth out of 12 providers.
Ofcom's Q1 2026 complaints data shows that Plusnet generated just 4 broadband complaints per 100,000 customers, compared with an industry average of 6. However, its landline service, which it no longer sells to new customers, was among the most complained about in the same quarter, alongside TalkTalk.
Plusnet's Trustpilot score however is rated 'bad', with a score of just 1.7 out of 5 from more than 12,000 reviews at the time we checked.

Who is Plusnet broadband best for?
Plusnet could be a good fit if its packages compare well at your address and you're happy to commit for the minimum term, often 24 months. However, it won't be perfect for everyone, so it's always good to see what options are available and pick the one that suits you best.
Plusnet may suit you if:
- You only need broadband: Plusnet could be best for you if you're wanting no frills broadband at a competitive price for top speeds - however you should always compare the most recent deals at your address to see who offers the best price
- You want full fibre: Where Plusnet's full fibre is available, you may be able to choose from several speed tiers depending on your household's needs
- You value customer satisfaction ratings: 91% of Plusnet customers were satisfied overall in Ofcom's survey, much higher than the average of 84%
You may want to compare alternatives if:
- You value Trustpilot reviews: If a 1.7 out of 5 Trustpilot score and being rated 'bad' is important to you, then you may want to check other suppliers
- You want more than broadband: Plusnet sells broadband only, with no TV packages, which could make it unsuitable for some households
- Another provider offers a better deal locally: Broadband pricing and availability vary by address - Plusnet may be good value in one area while another provider offers the better combination of price, speed and contract terms elsewhere

Plusnet vs BT
Plusnet and BT both offer a range of broadband speeds, so the better-value option will depend on what is available at your address. Plusnet's cheapest available deal is currently £20.99 a month for 74Mbps, compared with £23.99 a month for 150Mbps from BT.
Their recent Ofcom complaints records show Plusnet ahead. Plusnet received 4 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers in Q1 2026 and BT received 7, against an industry average of 6, so Plusnet was below average.
Plusnet vs Sky
Plusnet's cheapest available package is currently £20.99 a month for 74Mbps, while Sky starts from £15 a month for 0Mbps, although the deals and speeds you can get will depend on your address.
Their recent Ofcom complaints results were close, with 4 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers for Plusnet in Q1 2026 and 5 for Sky, which Ofcom treats as statistically comparable. If you're choosing between them, compare their live prices and speeds before thinking about the wider packages each provider offers.
Plusnet vs Vodafone
The best choice between Plusnet and Vodafone is likely to come down to the deal available where you live. Plusnet currently offers 74Mbps for £20.99 a month, compared with 50Mbps for £19 a month from Vodafone. Plusnet performed better in Ofcom's Q1 2026 complaints data, with 4 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers compared with Vodafone's 8. So if you're particularly concerned about complaint records, Plusnet may be worth factoring into your decision.

Frequently asked questions about Plusnet broadband
Is Plusnet broadband any good?
For many households, yes. Plusnet recorded 4 broadband complaints per 100,000 customers with Ofcom in Q1 2026, below the industry average of 6, and scored 71% in Which?'s 2026 broadband survey, fourth of 12 providers. Its Trustpilot score is low at 1.7 out of 5, so the best test is how its live deals compare at your address.
Is Plusnet part of BT?
Yes. Plusnet has been owned by BT since 2007 and is part of BT Group alongside BT and EE. Its broadband runs over the Openreach network.
How long is a Plusnet broadband contract?
Most Plusnet broadband contracts are 24 months, with some 12-month options - always check the minimum term of the specific deal before signing up. Leaving before your contract ends may involve an early termination charge.
What happens when my Plusnet broadband contract ends?
When your Plusnet contract ends you'll move onto a rolling monthly plan at your standard monthly rate. You can change or cancel without an early termination fee and you won't lose internet access - though it's worth shopping around at this point, as Ofcom found out-of-contract customers pay about £7 a month more on average for broadband alone.
How do I cancel Plusnet broadband?
Plusnet asks for 14 days' notice to cancel. If you're switching to another provider, One Touch Switch means your new provider arranges the move and Plusnet is told for you. Leaving before your minimum term ends may mean an early termination charge.
Is Plusnet full fibre available at my address?
Plusnet full fibre availability depends on where you live - use the address checker above to see which Plusnet packages and speeds are available at your property.
Does Plusnet increase broadband prices during the contract?
Yes. Plusnet's current contracts rise by £4 a month each 31 March. When you compare broadband deals with MoneyHQ these will be shown before you take out a deal, including the increase in pounds and pence. Always check the future price information shown with each deal so you know how your monthly cost might change during the minimum term.
Can I complain to Ofcom about Plusnet?
Ofcom does not handle individual complaints. Complain to Plusnet first; if it's not resolved after 6 weeks, or Plusnet sends you a deadlock letter, you can take it to the Communications Ombudsman, the free independent scheme Plusnet belongs to.
Is Plusnet better than BT, Sky or Vodafone?
There isn't one provider that will be best for every address - Plusnet may compare well on customer service and complaints record, while other providers may offer better pricing or speeds at your postcode. Plusnet recorded 4 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers with Ofcom in Q1 2026, fewer than BT and Vodafone and statistically comparable with Sky.
