THIS WEEK

William, MoneyHQ deal editor

Hi there, William here.

Broadband firms will pay you up to £300 to switch, there is over £1,000 in bank switching offers, and you can get 8% on your savings.

Your deal editor at MoneyHQ. I check every offer myself and I tell you the catch before you click.

TL;DR

  • Up to £300 switch credit: see if your address qualifies for a better deal plus credit. Compare broadband →

  • Over £1,000 in bank switching offers: some are so simple, just a case of switching and paying in. See switch offers →

  • 8% regular saver, 5.00% easy access saver: stop losing out on poor savings rates when you can get up to 8% fixed. Compare savings →

  • Mobile and SIM companies are ripping you off: get an iPhone 16 with 200GB data for just £26.99 a month. Compare phone deals →

01 · BROADBAND

Virgin Media £300 credit, Sky £200, BT £135

Broadband companies are literally paying for customers to switch to them. Some pay up to £300 in credit for your switch, others give a prepaid card worth up to £160 to spend on what you want.

Compare all the deals in about 30 seconds using a good comparison tool. PS, make sure it compares the full market, like MoneyHQ, not just the ones which pay them commission.

The catch: broadband offers and price availability differ from address to address. An offer you get may not be the same one in the next town.

02 · BANK SWITCHING

Santander £240, NatWest £200, HSBC £220

There are still so many bank offers to take advantage of, totalling up to over £1,000 being up for grabs.

Being loyal to one bank doesn't mean you get better service. It may be worth doing a switch and reaping the rewards.

The catch: if you have done a switch incentive before, that banking group may not allow you to do it again. There are plenty of options at the moment though.

03 · SAVINGS & ISAs

Lloyds and Bank of Scotland: 8% regular saver

Lloyds, who own Bank of Scotland too, have a regular saver paying up to 8% on your money. This is also a fixed rate, meaning it can't go down in the year.

If you need a good easy access saver, you can currently get up to 5% on your money. Make sure you're not getting ripped off and losing money by keeping it in a low interest saver.

The catch: the rate includes a 12 month bonus, then it drops to 3%. Easy access savers usually have a bonus in them too.

04 · MOBILE & SIM

Stop overpaying: iPhone 16 with 200GB data for £26.99 a month

One place people almost always overpay is on phones and SIMs. Like banks, they profit off your loyalty by massively increasing the price once you're out of contract.

Check whether you're in contract by texting 85075. Send the free text and you get a reply showing if you are in contract, when it ends, and any early termination fees. Some networks like Three or iD Mobile may reply asking for your date of birth first.

If you aren't in contract, you can likely leave free of charge, and then you can compare the full market.

The catch: mobiles are priced dynamically in comparisons, so you may see a deal which disappears after a few days.

William's take

Most people think that £10 a month here, £20 a month there isn't worth switching. I thought this too. But if you spend one afternoon looking at simple bills, energy, broadband, water, SIMs, insurance, savings rates, you may find that in one afternoon you can save yourself hundreds each year on autopilot.

In the UK, one thing we do well is forcing companies to make it easy to switch provider. Energy is automated, broadband is usually an engineer visit and a new router, insurance is usually 15 minutes of admin.

MoneyHQ compares products. It is not financial advice. If you are unsure, speak to a regulated adviser.
