The S26 Plus is Samsung’s middle ground featuring a bigger screen and battery than the standard S26, the same front and 3x telephoto cameras as the Ultra but without the 200 MP main sensor, the 50 MP ultrawide or the 5x telephoto, and a price that sits a couple of hundred pounds below the Ultra. It’s the one for people who want a large-screen Samsung flagship without going all the way.
The headline change this year is the move from Snapdragon to Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chip which Samsung claims 23% better GPU performance and 38% faster AI processing than the S25 Plus. Real-world speed is excellent for everyday use, gaming and video, and the vapor chamber keeps it cool under heavy workloads.
William’s take
The S26 Plus is a genuinely good phone featuring 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, solid triple camera, a 4,900 mAh battery which is rated for 31 hours of video, and all of Samsung’s AI features. For people upgrading from much older phones should instantly notice a big difference, however upgrading from a S25 is unlikely to be massively different.
The Galaxy S25 Plus is currently available from £35 a month true cost on contract which is roughly £1.07 a month less than the S26 Plus from £36.07 (both figures include upfront costs spread over the term). That gap adds up to around £26 over a two-year contract for a phone that is, in most real-world uses, extremely similar. If you’re upgrading from a phone that’s two or three years old, you’ll notice the jump regardless of which one you pick.
Buy the S26 Plus if: you want the latest chip, the new translucent camera island design, and Samsung’s newest AI features (Photo Assist, Now Nudge, AirDrop cross-compatibility with iPhones) and you plan to keep it for 3+ years.
Buy last year’s S25 Plus if: you want a large Samsung flagship and aren’t too bothered about the latest chip because the cameras, screen and battery are very close, and you’ll pay noticeably less.

For most people upgrading from an older phone then yes, either phone will be a big step up. If you’re deciding between the two right now, the S25 Plus is meaningfully cheaper on contract and the differences are incremental. The S26 Plus makes more sense if you’re planning to keep it for three years or more and want the latest chip and AI features.
What’s the difference between the S26 Plus and S26 Ultra?
The Ultra has a larger 200 MP main camera, a built-in S Pen stylus, a 5x telephoto with 100x Space Zoom, and a higher price. The Plus uses the same 50 MP main sensor as the standard S26. If you don’t need the S Pen and maximum zoom, the Plus is the more practical choice at a lower cost.
