OVO Energy review - tariffs, prices and is it worth switching?
Compare energy prices
Quick answer · figures checked 28 October 2026
- Is OVO Energy any good?
- Trustpilot: 4.7/5 from over 300,000 reviews. Which? ranks it lowest of 17 energy suppliers with a 61% customer score. The two measures tell different stories, with Which?’s independent survey the more representative, however Trustpilot has a much larger sample size.
- Is OVO’s fixed tariff cheaper than the price cap?
- Not currently. OVO’s 1-year fixed is above the Ofgem cap in every region as of October 2026. You’re paying a premium for price certainty which is only worth it if the cap rises significantly in January 2027 (currently a 26% price cap increase forecast).
OVO Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy suppliers, serving around 3.6 million homes. It has a strong Trustpilot score from a huge number of reviews but Which?’s latest independent survey tells a different story. This page covers OVO’s current tariffs, what customers actually think, and whether it’s worth switching to in Q4 2026.

OVO Energy tariffs - what’s available right now?
OVO currently offers two main options:
Variable tariff (price cap)
OVO’s standard variable tariff tracks the Ofgem price cap. From 1 October 2026 the cap is set at a typical annual bill of £1,723 - up £60 from Q3. OVO variable customers saw their bills rise on 1 October. This is a rolling contract with no exit fees:
- Electricity unit price: 26.11p per kWh
- Electricity standing charge: 61.41p per day
- Gas unit price: 7.87p per kWh
- Gas standing charge: 29.89p per day

1-year fixed tariff
OVO’s 1-year fixed locks in your unit rate for 12 months. Rates are currently above the price cap in which you’re paying a premium now for price certainty.
- Electricity unit price: 29.20p per kWh
- Electricity standing charge: 67.33p per day
- Gas unit price: 10.37p per kWh
- Gas standing charge: 26.46p per day
- Exit fee: £50 per fuel
Estimated annual total: £2,057.48 (based on 2,500 kWh electricity / 9,500 kWh gas) vs £1,733.65 on the variable tariff - a difference of roughly £324/year.
That means you’d pay more now to fix but you’d be protected if the cap rises in January 2027. Analyst forecasts currently suggest a rise of around 26%, which would put a typical variable bill at approximately £2,170. If that happens, fixing now at ~£2,057 saves around £113 over the year.
Worth noting there’s a £50 exit fee per fuel (£100 total) if you leave before the 12 months are up.

2-year fixed tariff
OVO also offers a 2-year fix. Rates vary by region, check OVO’s site or the comparison tool above for a personalised quote.

| Electricity standing charge | 61.41p/day | 67.33p/day | 67.26p/day | 54.83p/day |
| Gas standing charge | 29.89p/day | 26.46p/day | 26.39p/day | 29.68p/day |
| Estimated annual total | £1,733.65 | £2,057.48 | £2,035.07 | £1,723 |
| Exit fee | £0 | £50/fuel | £95/fuel | - |
All figures based on 2,500 kWh electricity / 9,500 kWh gas. Your bill will vary based on actual usage.
Both fixed tariffs are currently above the variable rate and the Ofgem cap. The 2-year fix is marginally cheaper per year than the 1-year fix (£2,035 vs £2,057) but locks you in for longer and carries a higher exit fee of £95 per fuel (£190 total).

What do customers think of OVO Energy?
Trustpilot: 4.7/5 - Excellent (over 300,000 reviews)
OVO has an excellent Trustpilot score with 78% of reviews being five stars. Customers consistently praise helpful staff and efficient engineer visits with the main complaints being long phone waiting times and difficulty reaching a human quickly. However, an overall rating of 4.7/5 is a clear sign of positive customer experiences.
Which?: 61% customer score - the lowest of 17 energy suppliers
Which?’s independent survey tells a different story. OVO scored two stars across every customer measure - overall service, communications and value for money. It scored just 6 out of 15 for complaints handling and 2 out of 5 for switching. Which? notes OVO’s customer service phone line has shorter hours than some other firms’.
The gap between Trustpilot and Which? is worth noting. Trustpilot reviews are self-selected which may focus more on customers who had a good experience. Which?’s survey actively samples existing customers across the board, which tends to produce a more representative picture.
Should you fix with OVO now?
The case for fixing comes down to what happens to the price cap in January 2027. Current analyst forecasts suggest a rise of around 26%, which would put a typical bill at approximately £2,170 a year.
- If the cap rises 26%: Fixing now at ~£2,057 saves roughly £113 over the year vs staying variable
- If the cap rises less than expected: You’d pay more on the fix than staying variable
- If you fix and the cap falls: You’re locked in above the market rate and subject to exit fees if you want to leave.
OVO isn’t the only supplier offering fixes right now. Use the comparison tool above to see whether another supplier is offering a lower fixed rate for your region before committing.
